Zara Home’s For&From Initiative Expands to Portugal with New Store Opening

Zara Home, the renowned brand under the Inditex Group, has taken a significant step in its commitment to social inclusion by inaugurating its first For&From store in Portugal. This initiative, aimed at integrating individuals with disabilities into both society and the workforce, marks a pivotal moment for Zara Home’s expansion into new markets.

Managed by the VilacomVida Association, the newly opened For&From store finds its home in the Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet in Alcochete, near the Portuguese capital. Spanning over 150m2, this establishment showcases and sells prior-season Zara Home collections, contributing to the brand’s innovative approach to inclusivity.

Portugal becomes the third country to embrace the For&From retail format, joining the ranks of 16 stores that have collectively created employment opportunities for over 750 individuals with diverse abilities. The initiative has also raised more than €8 million for charitable causes supported by the managing organizations.

Empowering Diversity at For&From

The For&From store in Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet aspires to foster a supportive environment for its staff, consisting of 17 individuals with various physical, sensory, and intellectual disabilities. The ultimate goal is to facilitate their seamless integration into both society and the workforce.

Initially funded by Inditex for construction, the For&From model becomes self-sustainable through the sale of prior-season products at discounted prices. Profits generated are reinvested in projects run by partner charities, with the VilacomVida Association being a key beneficiary in this instance.

Partnership with VilacomVida

Founders of the VilacomVida Association, Filipa Pinto Coelho, and João Gomes da Silva expressed their gratitude to the Inditex Group for choosing their organization to train the employees of the new Zara Home For&From store. They view this partnership as a crucial endorsement of their work in creating a more independent and joyful future for individuals with differing abilities.

Store Concept and Design

The Zara Home For&From store in Portugal spans 150m2, featuring a design dominated by natural materials and warm colors. The interior incorporates natural European oak, stone, and pale-colored finishes, creating a welcoming atmosphere for both customers and staff.

The store’s meticulously-selected product range is displayed following the logic of a real home and its rooms. Central display units introduce collections, while alternative colors and designs are showcased around the edges of the store. This concept not only provides an inclusive shopping experience but also reinforces the store as a banner retail space for promoting inclusion, accessibility, and the elimination of barriers.

In essence, Zara Home’s expansion of the For&From initiative to Portugal signifies a commitment to creating retail spaces that go beyond selling products, focusing on fostering a more inclusive and diverse society.
