Walgreens Boots Alliance Shareholders Vote in Robert L. Huffines as Board Member

Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (Nasdaq: WBA) has announced the appointment of Robert L. (Robbie) Huffines to its board of directors following his election at the 2024 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. Joining as an independent director, Huffines will contribute to the Finance and Technology Committee. Currently serving as the Global Chairman of Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., with over 30 years of experience advising healthcare companies, he plans to retire from his position at J.P. Morgan Chase early this year.

Huffines brings a wealth of experience in healthcare verticals, mergers and acquisitions, and investment banking to the WBA board. This addition aligns with the company’s strategic evolution to become the leading independent partner in healthcare services.

Stefano Pessina, Executive Chairman of Walgreens Boots Alliance, expressed his satisfaction with the appointment, emphasizing Huffines’ crucial role in reshaping the healthcare strategy for sustainable shareholder value. CEO Tim Wentworth also welcomed the addition, highlighting Huffines’ invaluable healthcare insights as the company develops a more capital-efficient health services strategy rooted in its retail pharmacy footprint.

Huffines began his tenure at J.P. Morgan in 1991, specializing in healthcare mergers and acquisitions. His roles included co-heading the global healthcare investment banking group from 2002 to 2010, and later serving as Vice Chairman and Co-Chair of the Global Strategic Advisory Council. Before joining J.P. Morgan, Huffines worked at Alex Brown & Sons, focusing on equity financing and advisory assignments for emerging growth companies.

Apart from his involvement with WBA, Huffines is currently on the boards of directors of Nextech Invest and Eikon Therapeutics. He has been a board member of the Hastings Center for Biomedical Ethics since 2020, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2019, and the University of Virginia Darden School of Business since 2018.

In collaboration with his wife, Lisa Huffines, Robbie recently founded The Forest Group, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the mental health of children in underserved communities.

Huffines, who holds an M.B.A. from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, expressed his honor in joining the WBA Board of Directors. He looks forward to contributing to the future of healthcare through a trusted brand with over 170 years of community service. As WBA focuses on capital-light investment models, Huffines aims to assist in leveraging talent, existing footprint, and the trust of millions of patients and customers to expand into the rapidly growing areas of healthcare.
