Tsuno Group Secures Patent for High-Dosage FERULIC ACID Formulation A Stable Solution with UV Absorption Properties from Rare Plant-Derived Ingredient

Ferulic Acid, a rare natural UV absorber derived from plants, has historically posed challenges in terms of stability and solubility, particularly at high concentrations.

In the realm of ferulic acid, Tsuno Group stands as a pioneering force, being the first in the world to successfully produce substantial quantities of this polyphenol from rice bran. Renowned for its potent antioxidant properties, ferulic acid has garnered attention for its potential in preventing ailments such as Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes mellitus, and high cholesterol. Additionally, it serves as a key ingredient in the production of natural vanillin, imparting a vanilla flavor. Ferulic acid, hailing from rice, shares a UV absorption spectrum similar to octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), making it a potential environmentally friendly substitute for EHMC. As environmental concerns intensify globally, ferulic acid’s natural and effective sunscreen properties are poised to receive increased recognition, particularly in various cosmetic applications across Japan.

Matsumoto Trading, recognizing the challenges posed by ferulic acid’s solubility and stability at high concentrations, has dedicated its research and development efforts to overcome these obstacles. Pioneering an innovative technology, they have successfully formulated a high concentration of ferulic acid in a solid stick form for UV-care products. This revolutionary formulation boasts SPF50+ and PA++ (in vitro) solely with ferulic acid as the natural UV absorber extracted from rice bran. Notably, this unique formulation eliminates the need for other commonly used UV protective ingredients while maintaining high sun protection effectiveness. Currently, the formulation is patent pending, marking a significant step forward in the field of sunscreen innovation.
