Kohl’s Donates $200,000 to NAMI Southeast Wisconsin for Mental Health Support

Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) has announced a significant commitment of $200,000 over two years to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southeast Wisconsin. This pledge is aimed at combating the stigma surrounding mental health and bolstering resources for youth and BIPOC communities in the Milwaukee area. The renewed support coincides with the commencement of Mental Health Awareness Month, underlining Kohl’s dedication to enhancing mental health and well-being.

Christie Raymond, Kohl’s chief marketing officer, expressed pride in extending the partnership with NAMI Southeast Wisconsin. She emphasized Kohl’s longstanding commitment to prioritizing family health and wellness in Wisconsin. Raymond highlighted the importance of supporting NAMI Southeast Wisconsin’s impactful mental health initiatives, which aim to enhance the lives of families in the Milwaukee area.

The financial backing from Kohl’s will facilitate various initiatives by NAMI Southeast Wisconsin, including:

  • Training for NAMI staff and volunteers in trauma-informed practices.
  • Forging new partnerships in Milwaukee to expand mental health programming for local nonprofits.
  • Further development of The Lighthouse Project in schools, providing critical support and education for families in crisis.
  • Extending the NAMI Ending the Silence presentation to additional high schools in Milwaukee County.
  • Researching and establishing a mental health support group specifically for BIPOC women.
  • Conducting Compassion Resilience Toolkit classes to support parents within communities of color.

Mary Madden, Executive Director of NAMI Southeast Wisconsin, emphasized the organization’s commitment to addressing the escalating mental health needs of the communities it serves. She welcomed the grant from Kohl’s as an opportunity to deepen existing partnerships and extend hope and resources to vulnerable populations.

Kohl’s has been a steadfast supporter of NAMI Southeast Wisconsin since 2022, having contributed over $400,000 to support mental health resources and combat stigmas. At the national level, Kohl’s has pledged over $8 million since 2021 and actively participates in NAMI’s StigmaFree Company initiative. The retailer collaborates with NAMI to develop training programs and resources for its associates.

Kohl’s commitment to mental health extends nationwide through partnerships with organizations like Alliance for a Healthier Generation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Locally, Kohl’s collaborates with Children’s Wisconsin to fund mental health walk-in clinics and enhance access to resources.

In addition to its support for mental health, Kohl’s has a longstanding tradition of contributing to Milwaukee-area nonprofits, having donated nearly $160 million to improve family health and wellness throughout its company history.
