Fresh, Classic Court Flair: The Return of Puma’s GV Special

Once dominating the tennis court and setting trends in fashion, the legacy of Guillermo Vilas continues to inspire. Reintroduced from PUMA’s rich archives, the GV Special emerges anew with vibrant color variations and enhanced comfort features. Crafted from tumbled leather, it boasts a perforated toebox for breathability and accents of gold lettering on its upper. Notably, the shoe’s signature thick sole unit remains a hallmark, delivering superior cushioning.

Originally introduced in the 1980s as the PUMA California, this training silhouette earned its reputation as a versatile choice, suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities, thanks to its distinctive inset midsole. Its name, California, derived from the construction technique that securely bonds the upper to the sole.

Renamed the GV Special in tribute to the legendary Argentinian tennis player, Guillermo Vilas, this silhouette transcended its athletic origins to become an icon among football casuals and terrace subculture enthusiasts. Vilas and other tennis champions adopted these premium performance shoes, often pairing them with dark, straight-legged jeans for a timeless style statement.

Launching in a classic “White” colorway on April 6, 2024, followed by a “White/Navy” version in May, the PUMA GV Special will be available at select global retailers, including Kith, Bodega, Slam Jam, END. Clothing, Sneakersnstuff, and WORKSOUT.
